Africamuseum @Bozar

Foyer for the Africa Museum in BOZAR

Commissioned by the Royal Museum Central Africa (RMCA) 2014

Curatorship and scenography with Christine Bluard, museologist RMCA

The Foyer Africa Museum@BOZAR is a meeting place set up at BOZAR - the Center for Fine Arts- in the center of Brussels during its renovation until 2017 in the heart of Brussels to inform visitors about the Africa Museum, its renovation and to generate a new dialogue.

Films, lectures and debates zoom in on current themes that tie in with the activities of the museum and the scientific institute. So there are lectures of scientists, debates with the diaspora and radio broadcasts of the African diaspora take place. The Foyer is also set up as a laboratory with temporary installations around well and lesser known aspects of the museum.

A timeline evokes more than a century of research. Twenty five meters publications; 1350 books, magazines, records and CDs, arranged chronological, evolves the dynamics of the research from strong disciplinary towards more interdisciplinary, almost exclusively Belgian and European authors to ever more publications of African scientists. Visitors can consult a number of publications themselves.

A selection of titles on the walls graphically illustrate and enhance the timeline.

In the side room, Studio Congo is designed for children from 7 years, families and classes with interactive play and work stations about the nature and culture of the DR Congo.
